What is Microblading/Nanoblading?

Microblading is a procedure categorized under permanent makeup, but unlike traditional cosmetic tattooing, it is less invasive and is considered semi-permanent.

The procedure is done by using a hand tool with ultra fine needles and each 'hair' is gently etched into the skin, giving an incredibly natural and realistic look. Microblading can dramatically correct or fully reconstruct lost eyebrow and is excellent for those wanting to enhance their brows or who have little to no eyebrows, thinning brows from age, or over tweezed brows.

Pigments are chosen to match the natural or desired brow color and skin tone will also be taken into consideration.

How long does It last?

Since microblading pigments are not implanted into the skin as deep as traditional tattoos, the area will naturally fade overtime.

Microblading typically lasts 1-3 years, depending on skin type (normal, oily, dry), age (youthful/mature).

Skincare routine will also affect the lasting effect of the pigment: patients who tan, or use products with AHA or Glycolic Acid will fade faster as the skin will resurface faster.

Each individual's colour retention within the skin will vary.

To maintain the brows looking fresh, a touch up is suggested every 12-18 months.

Clients can let the microbladed area fade over time, but please note a slight shadow may remain.

If you are a frequent smoker, "sun worshipper" or have an irregular thyroid, liver, stomach, hormonal imbalance, oily or porous skin can these also effect the pigment durability. meaning you may have poor retention and poor lasting results

How long does it take?

The appointment will usually take 1.5-2 hours, this includes shaping and mapping the brows and selecting a colour best suited.

Will you shave my eyebrows off?

Definitely not! The more brow hair the better, to help keep them looking as natural as possible!

How long is the healing process?

It can take up to 2 weeks, for any scabbing to disappear, but around 4-6 weeks to see the true colour, as it will get darker in the first week, lighter in the second, almost disappear and then come back as the skin heals.

You'll notice the colour is very light right after the two weeks after healing; the skin will have an opaque milky looking quality to it. This is known as the milk skin and is common in tattooing. This is due to the the tissue still healing from the inside out even though the surface of the skin is healed. True color will reveal itself once healed.

Day 1 - Finely detailed, slight redness

Day 2-4 - They become a few shades darker/more crisp/filled in looking as they form a light scab. This is only temporary, don't panic!

Day 5-12- The scab naturally exfoliates, peels & flakes away over the course of several days. The fresh skin underneath is white & has a waxy coating, making it appear that the brows are too light. Be patient!

Day 10-30 - The colour may appear light, but will slowly come back to life & bloom back to the surface as that new, white skin you have settles in & heals.

Wait at least 4 weeks to see the true colour, as it will take on new strength, it is only after 4 weeks that your touch-up/adjustment can be done

Is the top up necessary?

Yes, without the top up skin regeneration may cause you to loose pigment when healing, causing the brows to look uneven or patchy and without the top up they will not last.

Can I get my touch up session sooner than 4 weeks?

Touch up sessions should not be done earlier than 4 weeks after initial microblading session as pigment color has not fully settled into the skin. Most importantly, this is to prevent scar damage as the tissue requires time to completely heal.

Is it painful?

Regarding the prior care is strictly followed, the pain level for the procedure is considered mild to none. Depending on the client, the feeling of the procedure has been described as light cat scratches to not feeling anything. Although having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure and it is recommended you don’t have it done on day 1 or 2 of your cycle.

If you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, be aware that this may affect your sensitivity tolerance to the procedure.

After the procedure, redness and slight swelling in the area is normal. Clients describe the area feeling similar to a light sunburn.

Am I suitable?

Microblading is not suitable for the following candidates:

  • Using Accutane

  • Those with heart conditions or using heart medications

  • Diabetics (will require a doctor's note)

  • Those who have had Botox in the last 2 weeks

  • Those who have had been in the sun 4 weeks prior

  • Those who have had a chemical peels in the last 2 weeks

  • Allergic to lidocaine, prilocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine or epinephrine

  • Anyone who has any serious medical conditions may require a physician's note.

  • Pregnant or nursing clients

  • Under 18

  • Those with blood clotting issues.

How do I know they will suit me?

All eyebrows are tailor made to suit each, individual client. We know each individual is different, one style does not suit all. So together we will choose a shape and colour to suit.

Is there anything I should avoid prior?

Prior & after care will be sent across to you, along with medical consent forms and appointment confirmation.

It is vital you do not have tea, or coffee (including decaf) cigarettes, fizzy or ibuprofen 48 hours prior!

Fat burners, aspirin, glucosamine, vitamin C, turmeric, vitamin E, ginger, fish oil or blood thinning tablets, skin nail or hair tablets should be stopped one week prior!

Any Vitamin A/Retinol products & sun exposure /sunbe should of been stopped one month prior!

If these instructions are not followed you will bleed out the pigment and it will result in poor retention, the end result will not be soft or natural, ruining the end result!

Not too mention your sensitivity levels will be extremely high!

I cannot stress enough how much it breaks my heart when prior care isn’t followed.

It is such an expensive treatment, why wouldn’t you want it to look the very best it can?

It is so disheartening to start microblading and then find out the prior care hasn’t been strictly followed!

Microblading can look so soft, natural and beautiful, but if the prior care isn’t followed it will be harsh, hair strokes will not heal crisp, but blurred and messy!

Power/ombré or combination brows will not heal soft.

There are so many brows I have created that I love, but also so many I have started & wanted to cry and would love to remove, because I know how the finished result will look and everyone will see, not knowing it’s down to prior care not being followed and it wasn’t anything down to what I have done.

PLEASE follow it strictly, it’s only temporary and I can guarantee amazing end results if you work with me!

Will I need a patch test?

Yes, at Ely SPMU & Aesthetic Clinic our clients safety and well being is our top priority! We do not cut corners, or take any risks, meaning your mind can be put at ease, you are in safe hands

Is there more than one method and how do I know which one is right for me?

Microblading is done using a handheld tool, which creates very natural hairlike strokes. It is perfect for those who want the most natural look, or for those who want to define their brows and fill in some gaps. This is best for clients who have normal/dry skin with fine and relatively evenly dispersed hair.

Blade and shade is a combination of microblading hair strokes and shading. Shading is done with a machine to add a soft shade of colour in between the hairstrokes to mimic hair density. Shading with microblading adds intensity and boldness to your brows and is best suited for those who have little to no hair, dense hair that is uneven, or for those who are used to a filled in and more full looking brow.

Ombre/powder brows are done using a digital machine, giving you that "filled in" look. Full shaded brows can range from a soft powdery look to a more dense and bold “Instagram brow” look. Shading is better suited for those who have oilier skin or who like the look of brow makeup, but don't want to fill them in every day.

Combination brows is different from blade and shade, as it is a full shaded brow with microbladed hair strokes only at the front part of the brow. Combo brows suit clients who prefer the filled in makeup look (“Instagram brows”), who have dense and uneven eyebrows, and who still want the natural look of some hairlike strokes at the front of their brows. This works for clients who don’t have an oily t-zone as microblading strokes can heal less crisp on oilier skin.
